Welcome to Higher Classification of the Bees (Hymenoptera: Apoidea, Anthophila)
This site is dedicated to providing up-to-date information on higher bee classification since the publication of Michener's The Bees of the World. Second Edition" (Michener 2007). This will include both extant and extinct forms known from the fossil record. In addition to genus-group names (sensu Michener 2007), family-group names (sensu Engel 2005, 2015) will also be included, including those that are available, but currently in synonymy. It also includes a full bibliography of the literature pertaining to bee systematics and taxonomy.
